EXHIBITION : An Overview.

"MATHEMATICS is the Door & the Key to the Sciences."

The Artifacts

On 30th of November, we conducted a small exhibition, displaying all our project materials like the charts, models and reports.

All our hard efforts were put in the form of arts that really attracted the eyes of the viewers. We also invited our beloved principal ma'am, Mrs. K. Rajeswari, who in-spite of her busy hours, came to view our exhibition and encourage us for our future endeavors. Also Mrs. Anitha ma'am, Mr. Vijay Kumar sir, and a lot many others came to see our exhibition and they all were full of praise for our tireless work. They also shared their suggestions with us.

A few teachers like Mrs. Rugmini ma'am and Mrs. Nazeema ma'am took their students also to view our exhibition. All these encouraged us a lot. At this juncture we would like like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all those who helped us and supported us during each and every stage of our project.

EXPERT TALK 2: By Mrs.G.Anita ( PGT Mathematics)

APPLICATIONS OF TRIGONOMETRY IN 11th AND 12th CURRICULUM

Expert Talk by Mrs.G.ANITHA
DATE: 26.11.2016

On 26th November 2016, there was an expert talk by Mrs. G. Anitha, PGT Mathematics, on the topic Applications of Trigonometry in Mathematics in the 11th and 12th curriculum.
She started the talk by introducing us to the various trigonometric ratios by means of a video.

She briefed about the different branches of trigonometry and mathematics also stating the various trigonometric ratios and identities that we will be learning in our higher classes.

She introduced us to a new topic, The Polar Coordinate System, which is a two-dimensional coordinate system in which each point on a plane is determined by a distance from a reference point and an angle from a reference direction. Later, she clarified all our queries with utmost patience. It was a very informative talk.

EXPERT TALK-1 Application of Trigonometry in Physics

APPLICATION OF TRIGONOMETRY IN
PHYSICS

Expert Talk by Mr. SIVADAS

DATE: 25.11.2016

On 25th November 2016, Mr. Sivadas, PGT Physics, briefed us about the application of trigonometry in Physics.

Trigonometry, he explained, has a wide range of application in Physics and is an essential for deriving and solving many equations. It is a vital tool in determining the distance between different planets and stars. Because of its ability to explain space distance and its relationships with angles, it can very well be used in all the branches of Modern Physics. Trigonometry is also crucial for understanding light rays and their behavior. Because complex problems such as the bending of  light rays as it passes through glass, can be broken down into mathematical components, they can be easily solved and analyzed by means of trigonometry. The talk was very informative and enlightening.

GROUP 7: Finding the Sun's Elevation

" Failure will never overtake you if your            determination to succeed is strong enough."

On account of the Project Based Learning, we were supposed to do a project on finding the sun's elevation during different times. It was a very  interesting task as compared to  other groups, as we had to do a completely different job.

We had done this activity in an hours gap. This was done by Vichithra, Amala, Arun and Anu.

The pole which they measured

We prepared a chart and also made a power point presentation highlighting the importance of trigonometry in our day-to-day life. We also added other interesting topics topics like how trigonometry is used in other fields, describing more about our activity, etc which was done by Vichithra and Anu Maria.

Finally summarizing everything a report was prepared by Karthik and Arun on all the experimental details and their observations. It was presented through a presentation, by Amala, in order  to make it more clear to our classmates.

A model was also prepared on the same and it was followed by a  brief seminar which was enthusiastically presented by all of us.

This work enabled us to use our creativity and helped us a lot in honing our skills and abilities.

GROUP 6 - Determining the Height of a Building

"Hard work does not necessarily guarantee success, but no success is possible without 'HARD WORK' ."

Our task was to determine the height of a building by using the concept of trigonometric ratios. To do our activity, we needed a clinometer which was made by Athul, Rohith and Sajeed together.

of a building.

Our whole work was summoned up in a chart.  We also made a power point presentation highlighting the importance of trigonometry in our day-to-day life. It was the contribution of Sravan.

The colorful and elegant charts and the report was made by Archana and Drishya.

This assignment was very helpful to us in understanding the importance of trigonometry in our lives. We could now determine the height of any object with ease.

Group 5- Applications of Trigonometry in real life..

"Team Work Divides the Task & Multiplies the Success."

As a part of our PBL we were assigned the topic-“Origin of Trigonometry”. We were also given the activity of making a clinometer and finding the height of a pole.

We found this video useful in making a clinometer

Trigonometry Real Life Application

We were able to complete our activity along with the other project requirements like Power Point Presentations, charts and reports.

The works allotted for each group member is as follows:
 Report                            : Abhijith and Roshan
 PPT                                 : Razul Haris
Charts                             : Sreevidya.V and Akhila Parveen
Question and Answers: Jithin

On the submission day we presented a seminar on what our project was based on. This project helped us a lot to know more about the origin of trigonometry and its applicatio in real life.

Group 4- Measuring the Height of a building the Height of the Person Only is Known.

"Teamwork is the Secret that makes Common People Achieve Uncommon Results."

The work done by us for project based learning provided us more insights into the understanding of the concept of trigonometry and its applications in everyday life. It was more realistic than we usually understands in our class. We could understand this concept more than anyone else as we were actually learning by performing activities.

We were given the activity of finding the height of a building by using the angle of elevation of the top of the building

Before we start...

We surfed the internet and found these videos useful.

Nandu and Sreevidya performing the activity
with the help of Usha ma'am.

Two different observations were made by two persons in standing and kneeling down. Using the tan value of the angle of elevation we got the height of the building excluding the height of the persons.

building using a Clinometer.

To keep a record of our findings, a report was prepared by our crew on all the experimental details and our observations and a presentation was also done to explain the same to our classmates.

At the end we could appreciate the importance of trigonometry in daily life and its applications ranging from warfare to astronomy.
